Deterritorialization, Tanatology and Climate Change: A Reading of Capitalism and Schizophrenia for a World in Ruins

This article seeks to mobilize the theoretical framework developed in the two volumes of Capitalism and Schizophrenia by Deleuze and Guattari in the face of the ongoing climate crisis. We aim to mobilize the conceptualization of capitalism developed there in order to offer an analysis that, in line with Jason Moore’s work, allows us to understand the relationship between capitalism and the ecological crisis. Our focus will be on the respective concepts of deterritorialization and capitalist reterritorialization. In this sense, we articulate Nick Land’s accelerationist thinking, in the context of his defense of the acceleration of capitalist deterritorialization, in order to shed light on the serious dangers it poses to the biosphere and then analyze its relationship with the capitalist dynamic of plundering extra-human natures. Finally, we conclude that Land’s defense of deterritorialization consists of a suicidal horizon movement
