Abstract

The present work aims at establishing a reading of the hobbesian sentence: "the man is a wolf of man himself", with the purpose of investigating the relations that are established between men, in view of the conflicts inherent in human nature, the exaltation of reason and the state of nature, and seeking to articulate such conceptions with the questions of freedom and happiness. In this sense, we will approach hobbesian thinking about man and society, interconnecting it with the tale Individual measurement of the russian writer Varlam Chalámov, especially as regards the intolerance and suppression of human rights that permeate social life.
